#whsfridayfact  A whole school trip on 1^st February 1901

Queen Victoria passed away on 22^nd January 1901 and her coffin was transported on the Royal Yacht Alberta from her home on the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth on the 1^st February.  The entire school, all wearing black and white rosettes so they could be distinguished in the crowd, caught a steam train from Brighton Station to Portsmouth.  They watched the ships arrive across the Solent, 8 torpedo destroyers followed by Alberta, which held the Queens coffin. The King and the German Emperor followed on board the ship called the Victoria and Albert.
