#whsfridayfact Campbell Field and why it was named this.
The Campbell field was named in memory of member of staff Don Campbell, who was head of History and Geography in the mid-70s. He died ‘in harness’ - he returned home to Billingshurst following his cricket team’s defeat at Brighton College and had a severe heart attack, never regaining consciousness. He was also a great help to Richard Martin and Nigel Chilvers with the lighting for our school plays, which were then in Harrow. The area behind the Maze was levelled and the field created for hockey to mark his passing.
