Windlesham Developments since 2020
Highden
Highden is now a much-used multi-purpose function and meeting room and is especially popular with parents for match teas. The fire has been reinstated for the first time in over 30 years.
On Tuesdays at break time is always full of children celebrating their Aphas with hot chocolate and squirty cream! Highden is available to hire for alumni functions and dinners.
The Memorial Library
This important room in the history of Windlesham was in a very sorry state and has now been restored for use a comfortable staff room. The original features have been reinstated and greater prominence give to the roll of honour.
The Senior Deputy Head’s Study
This room had been neglected for a number of years and become very institutionalised in its use as an office but again has an important part to play in the history of the school when it moved to Highden House in 1934. It has now been restored although unfortunately the fireplace is long gone.
Pevensey
A much-loved place for snooker and film watching the in the past, Pevensey is now used a walk through, overflow for large Chapel Services and the signed out spot for day pupils. We have also recently used it to display pupils’ amazing art work.
Music Room
Once the school’s swimming pool, this is now a fantastic space for all music lessons, choir and ensemble practices, rock band rehearsals and the old changing rooms are now the Marimba Room. We new external doors and situated below the drama studio and adjacent to the MFT, it forms the perfect Performing Arts hub.
The old pool itself, accessed by a trap door is excellent for storage too!
The Personal Development Department – Wellbeing Room
Introduced in September 2022, the Personal Development Department in situated in former girls’ dorms on the ground floor adjacent to the Medical Centre. The wellbeing room is used by children at break and lunchtimes who want a chat, some where quiet to sit or for various activities and craft groups.
The PSHE Room is next door and perfectly displays the schools new ACE Habits for Learning devised by the whole school and introduced in September 2021and this former dorm also makes a brilliant classroom.
Table Tennis
Never has this sport been more popular and these tables are in such demand that we need a third!
The Boys’ Dorms Grub Hub
The new Grub Hub is a comfy room and space for the boarders to gather and chat, have a hot chocolate or some toast or watch a film. It is very much a hub of boarding life whilst also giving the boys a taste of life and the independence they will have in their senior schools.
The Malden Family Theatre (MFT)
The MFT continues to be an amazing resource and we are forever grateful for the vison of the Charles and Elizabeth Ann as well as the generosity of the parents which made the project possible. It is now 30 years old and some improvements have been necessary. Over the last two years we have been able to install a state-of-the-art lighting and sound system, a new screen and projector and the floor has been completely refurbished (no more sports markings). When funds allow, it will be completely redecorated and new retractable seating installed.
The JD Block
Extensive internal changes were made in the summer of 2021 to form three new classrooms and this building has now become the dedicated Languages Centre for the teaching of French, Spanish and Classics.
The Junior Wing
This area has received some much-needed attention to make it more welcoming and homelier. The corridor has been refurbished to provide more space and a disused room has been converted into very smart toilets.
