Well done Tilly!
Well done Tilly!
After a weeks training at home in Bermuda Tilly was delighted to represent her home country of Bermuda in her first overseas International event. The CARIFTA games is the largest Youth Athletic event in the world and includes 26 countries, many of which live and breathe track and field. Only 14 athletes from Bermuda met the stringent qualification times to travel as a team to the Bahamas. On the first day Tilly ran in the under 17 1500 meters where she achieved 6th place out of the 12 girls who qualified for the final. Tilly was slightly disappointed by her time and flustered by the early pace of the race and the 27 degree heat that the race took part in! However as the only 14 year old in the race she was picked out by the television commentary as one to watch in the future. Tilly used her disappointment to fuel her determination the next day in the brutal 3000 meters which thankfully was run later in the evening. In this event Tilly raced in the UNDER 20 age group and achieved 7th place out of 14 in the final. Tilly pushed herself as hard as she could and kicked again and again, which was rewarded with 14 seconds off her personal best. Tilly ran 10 minutes 50 seconds which is an incredibly fast time for a girl her age.

In both races her finishing position doesn't explain that she was actually only 100th's of seconds of a medal position as the races were close. Tilly is determined to better her times this athletics season at Marlborough and to continue to represent Bermuda whenever she can.

Back in Bermuda Tilly was interviewed in several media, where with the maturity ‘fostered’ at Windlesham she spoke in full support of her team and set out her goals for the future!
