#whsfridayfact Exploding Tree
One Sunny day in the early sixties and group of enthusiastic and imaginative schoolboys went in search of ammunition, which was often found in the grounds at that time. They were lucky enough to uncover a large bomb, the type aircraft would have dropped during the war. With great excitement, they moved the bomb to rest under a large tree, thinking that after lunch they would return to investigate their find further. During the lunch period, there was an almighty explosion, glasses jumped on the table and plates rattled. The bomb had exploded blowing the 10 ft girth tree several yards. Luckily, no one was injured.
